Fisher Mall

Fisher Mall

Reggie and I went to Quezon City last Saturday to pick up some paper at Prestige Paper Products in General Lim Street. We ended up going to Fisher Mall afterwards, as it was nearby. Only the supermarket and a few of the fast food restaurants

Dumaguete

Dumaguete

I went to Dumaguete with some relatives of mine this past week. Internet connection was spotty at the resort, so I’m doing a long post to make up for all the days I wasn’t able to post for my pictures.

Sunday night before we left, Tito Louie, Jet, and Denise celebrated their birthday at their house. It was also Javee’s despedida. And a party to welcome Tita Naty, Tito Tony, Regina, and Asher to the Philippines.

They had F.I.M. (Friends in Music) perform at their house to celebrate.

Whilce Portacio at Comic Odyssey Promenade

Whilce Portacio was at the new Comic Odyssey inside Fully Booked Promenade in Greenhills today. We bought some prints and had them signed. I was able to get the app Halftone 2 for free and decided to play around with it for today’s post. Reggie was

Customer Service, Opposite Ends of the Spectrum, from One Company

When I got my iPhone 5S, I didn’t realize that Globe didn’t send me an LTE-enabled SIM. I tried to get it replaced the other day, but there weren’t any SIMs available at the business center in Podium, and when I went to the one in Robinson’s Ermita, the system for SIM replacement was down. So I went to Robinson’s Ermita again today to see if I could get a new one. The guard warned me prior to giving me a queue number that the wait was long because there were 11 people ahead of me. I figured it would take an hour, maybe 2 hours tops to get to the front of the line. I was so wrong.

After waiting for an hour, the queue number hadn’t changed. So I hung around the Express Service counter, hoping I could get some help. Guess what? I was so wrong AGAIN. The person at the counter wasn’t servicing the Express Service counter. He was handing out new iPhones to new accounts. And doing ONLY that. When I asked if I could get my SIM changed, he said, “Do you have a number?” I said I did. He then pointed to the signs “That’s why it says ‘Next Counter Please'” and that I had to wait. This is the kind of service that wins awards?

The Express Service counter being used as an extra area to release new iPhones instead of what was listed behind the agent. In case you can’t read it, it says “Change SIM, Prepaid Purchases, How to”.

January 2, 2014

I gave baking lessons to Joy and Steve’s children, Bambi and Summer today. They enjoyed the batter so much, they kept swiping to have a taste. I hope they come by again, it was fun teaching them.

Canonigo Recipe up on ManilaSpeak.com

My first article for the year is posted at ManilaSpeak. Canonigo is a Filipino version of the French île flottante meaning “floating island”. I have yet to find out the origin of the name though. A web search for the word turns up “canon” and “corn salad”.

New Pictures for the New Year

New Pictures for the New Year

I promised myself I would take at least one picture everyday for this year. Let’s see how this goes! I’m also in the process of configuring my blog to allow me to upload one everyday with minimal effort so it’s easier to do. I’ll be able to see in the next few days if  what I remember I can do will work.

Breakfast today was: coffee, a thinly sliced bagel I toasted and some chorizo.

Revisiting a Childhood Memory

Revisiting a Childhood Memory

In the early 80’s, I lived in Bacolor, Pampanga. Both my grandparents had ancestral homes beside the church, though I lived on a farm much further away. During the Mt. Pinatubo eruption in 1991, both ancestral homes were buried in lahar. One was later dismantled
